If you are looking for a rare and unusual mineral to add to your collection and join your other wonders, here is our selection of botryoidal or grape chalcedony, mistakenly called grape agate (no, it is not an agate at all!).
Originating from the island of Sulawesi, in Indonesia, botryoidal chalcedony is formed of quartz crystallites that strangely resemble a bunch of grapes. Mainly purple with some light to very dark shades for the rarest ones, white, gray, or green botryoidal chalcedony can also be found.
Characteristics of botryoidal chalcedony:
- Length: 6.8cm
- Width: 3.6cm
- Height: 3.5cm
- Weight: 52g
- Chalcedony hardness: 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale
- Variety of chalcedony in the form of microcrystalline quartz
Aspects of grape chalcedony:
If you are looking for a special and rare chalcedony for your mineral collection, or to have a unique and decorative piece for your interior, here is our beautiful 52g botryoidal or grape chalcedony from Indonesia. It is mainly formed of rounded microcrystals over most of the stone. In terms of coloration, the grape clusters averaging 2mm are mainly purple, with a green spot in the center, and a few microcrystals of off-white to yellowish color. A translucent base will be delivered with it if you wish to safely keep the chalcedony upright.
Note: Particular care has been taken to best respect the natural colors of the minerals offered to you. Photos are taken in the best conditions, and slightly retouched to best resemble the original stone. However, there may be slight contrasts due to the different screens you use and their brightness.
