Mauve botryoidal chalcedony from Sulawesi - Indonesia - 10g | PCGRAP-18

If you are looking for a rare and unusual mineral to add to your collection and join your other wonders, here is our selection of botryoidal or grape chalcedony, mistakenly called grape agate (no, it is not an agate at all!).

Hailing from the island of Sulawesi, in Indonesia, botryoidal chalcedony is made up of quartz crystallites that strangely resemble a bunch of grapes. Primarily purple with some light to very dark shades for the rarest, white, gray, or green botryoidal chalcedony is also found.

Characteristics of botryoidal chalcedony:

• Chalcedony hardness: 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale
• Variety of chalcedony in microcrystalline quartz form

Aspects of grape chalcedony:

Fully crystallized in the form of microcrystalline quartz, here is our 3.8cm long botryoidal chalcedony from Indonesia. It is formed of grape-shaped crystals of a beautiful pale purple, some reaching up to 6mm in diameter, and shimmering pleasantly in sunlight (and in the shade too, for that matter). It also allows light to pass through with backlighting. A translucent stand will be offered with the chalcedony so you can place it on top if you wish.
