Vanadinite, with its hexagonal crystal system, is a mineral species composed of lead chlorovanadate, a mixture of lead, vanadium, oxygen, and chlorine. Vanadinite forms in the oxidation zone of lead deposits when vanadium-rich fluids react with existing minerals. It is used in industry to harden steel. Formed of often brilliant and well-defined hexagonal crystals, vanadinite can be found primarily associated with barite, calcite, cerussite, mimetite, and other iron oxides.
Vanadinite Characteristics:
- Length: 5.5cm
- Width: 4.1cm
- Height: 2.6cm
- Weight: 72g
- Vanadinite Hardness: 2.5 to 3 on the Mohs scale
- Vanadinite Density: Between 6.8 and 7g/cm³
- Vanadinite belongs to the hexagonal crystal system
Vanadinite Aspects:
Directly from Morocco, here is a sublime 72g vanadinite, entirely crystallized on its surface. This piece is remarkable for its originality because you can admire certain hexagonal crystals where other crystals have formed on an entire part of them, measuring less than a millimeter, which is rather rare and sought after by collectors. For the larger crystals that make up this piece, they average 7mm and are all of near-perfect quality! On the back of the mineral, you can also discover tiny, glittering vanadinite crystals on the rock. In terms of color, the basic matrix is light brown, and the vanadinite is red and brown depending on the angle from which it is viewed.
⚠ A lead-rich mineral, this stone should be handled with caution! Avoid prolonged contact with water or the mouth, do not put your nose close to the stone to avoid inhaling dust, or touch it too much without gloves.
Note: Particular care has been taken to best respect the natural colors of the minerals offered to you. Photos and videos are taken under the best conditions and slightly retouched to be as close as possible to the original stone. However, there may be slight contrasts due to the different screens used and their brightness, especially with vanadinites whose admired color varies depending on the light to which they are exposed.
