Vanadinite, with its hexagonal crystal system, is a mineral species composed of lead chlorovanadate, a mixture of lead, vanadium, oxygen, and chlorine. Vanadinite forms in the oxidation zone of lead deposits when vanadium-rich fluids react with pre-existing minerals. It is used in industry to harden steel. Formed of often shiny and well-defined hexagonal crystals, vanadinite can primarily be found associated with baryte, calcite, cerussite, mimetite, and other iron oxides.
Characteristics of Vanadinite:
- Length: 8.9cm
- Width: 5.1cm
- Height: 3.3cm
- Weight: 128g
- Hardness of vanadinite: 2.5 to 3 on the Mohs scale
- Density of vanadinite: Between 6.8 and 7g/cm³
- Vanadinite belongs to the hexagonal crystal system
Aspects of Vanadinite:
A Moroccan discovery from 2022, here is a sublime vanadinite with crystals that are slightly dark red in places, more intense and vibrant on one of its faces, and light brown at the back. Admire its formation of hexagonal crystals of very good quality, with sizes ranging from less than 1mm for the smallest to 11mm for the largest, and formed on a light beige matrix that perfectly matches the red of the vanadinite! This is a truly valuable stone if you are looking for a vanadinite for your mineral collection.
⚠ A lead-rich mineral, it remains a stone to be handled with caution! Avoid prolonged contact with water or the mouth, do not put your nose close to the stone to avoid inhaling dust, and do not touch it too much without gloves.
Note: Particular care has been taken to best respect the natural colors of the minerals offered to you. Photos and videos are taken in the best conditions, and slightly retouched to get as close as possible to the original stone. However, there may be slight contrasts due to your different screens used and their brightness, especially with vanadinites whose admired color varies depending on the light to which it is exposed.
