Vanadinite, with a hexagonal crystal system, is a mineral species composed of lead chlorovanadate, a mixture of lead, vanadium, oxygen, and chlorine. Vanadinite forms in the oxidation zone of lead deposits when vanadium-rich fluids react with existing minerals. It is used in industry to harden steel. Formed of often brilliant and well-defined hexagonal crystals, vanadinite can mainly be found associated with baryte, calcite, cerussite, mimetite, and other iron oxides.

Vanadinite Characteristics:

  • Length: 7.1cm
  • Width: 4.7cm
  • Height: 3.4cm
  • Weight: 168g
  • Vanadinite Hardness: 2.5 to 3 on the Mohs scale
  • Vanadinite Density: Between 6.8 and 7g/cm³
  • Vanadinite belongs to the hexagonal crystal system

Vanadinite Aspects:

Discover an impressive cluster of large vanadinite crystals formed on a 168g beige rock matrix. The crystallization is quite damaged on the top with many broken crystals (I don't know the conditions of these breakages), but you will still find many beautiful, well-formed crystals ranging in size from 1mm to 11mm for the largest. If you are looking for your first good-sized vanadinite, this one can definitely be an addition to your collection for a start.

A lead-rich mineral, it remains a stone to be handled with caution! Avoid prolonged contact with water or the mouth, do not bring your nose close to the stone to avoid inhaling dust, or touch it too much without gloves.

Note: Particular care has been taken to best respect the natural colors of the minerals offered. Photos and videos are taken in the best conditions, and slightly retouched to best resemble the original stone. However, there may be slight contrasts due to your different screens and their brightness, especially with vanadinite whose admired color varies depending on the light to which it is exposed.
