Vanadinite, with a hexagonal crystal system, is a mineral species composed of lead chlorovanadate, a mixture of lead, vanadium, oxygen, and chlorine. Vanadinite forms in the oxidation zone of lead deposits when vanadium-rich fluids react with pre-existing minerals. It is used in industry to harden steel. Formed of often brilliant and well-defined hexagonal crystals, vanadinite can primarily be found associated with barite, calcite, cerussite, mimetite, and other iron oxides.

Characteristics of vanadinite:

  • Length: 8.2cm
  • Width: 5cm
  • Height: 4.9cm
  • Weight: 189g
  • Vanadinite hardness: 2.5 to 3 on the Mohs scale
  • Vanadinite density: Between 6.8 and 7g/cm³
  • Vanadinite belongs to the hexagonal crystal system

Aspects of vanadinite:

Completely crystallized on the top, discover our sublime 189g vanadinite from Morocco, available at Terrae Minéraux! On a light brown rock matrix, typical of this Moroccan province, you will find magnificent hexagonal vanadinite crystals all over the stone's faces, ranging from a vibrant, sparkling red to an equally appealing brownish-red. The sizes of the crystals vary from less than 1mm to 9mm for the largest one located at the top of the stone. You can admire hundreds of small vanadinite crystals present all around this stone, almost all of which are intact and of good quality (you will find one broken crystal on the top, among the many other large crystals). Whether it's by its size, color, or crystallization quality, this exceptional stone will find its place among your collection of other unique minerals.

A lead-rich mineral, it remains a stone to be handled with caution! Avoid prolonged contact with water or the mouth, do not put your nose close to the stone to avoid inhaling dust, or touch it too much without gloves.

Note : Particular care has been taken to best respect the natural colors of the minerals offered to you. Photos and videos are taken in the best conditions, and slightly retouched to best approximate the original stone. However, there may be slight contrasts due to your different screens and their brightness, especially with vanadinites whose admired color varies depending on the light to which it is exposed.
