Vanadinite, with its hexagonal crystal system, is a mineral species composed of lead chlorovanadate, a mixture of lead, vanadium, oxygen, and chlorine. Vanadinite forms in the oxidation zone of lead deposits when vanadium-rich fluids react with existing minerals. It is used in industry to harden steel. Composed of often brilliant and well-defined hexagonal crystals, vanadinite can be found primarily associated with barite, calcite, cerussite, mimetite, and other iron oxides.
Characteristics of vanadinite:
- Lengths: 6.6cm
- Widths: 4.8cm
- Height: 3.5cm
- Weight: 103g
- Hardness of vanadinite: 2.5 to 3 on the Mohs scale
- Density of vanadinite: Between 6.8 and 7g/cm³
- Vanadinite belongs to the hexagonal crystal system
Aspects of vanadinite:
Set on a beautiful light brown, trace-leaving rock matrix, discover sublime hexagonal crystals of sparkling red covering the entire top of the rock. The crystals, of very good quality (with a few visible fractures), average between 1mm and 6mm. If you do not yet have vanadinite in your collection and are looking for a quality stone, this crystallized Moroccan mineral will find its place among your other treasures of the Earth.
⚠ A lead-rich mineral, it is a stone to be handled with care! Avoid prolonged contact with water or the mouth, do not bring your nose close to the stone to avoid inhaling dust, or touch it too much without gloves.
Note: Particular care has been taken to best respect the natural colors of the minerals offered to you. Photos and videos are taken in the best conditions and slightly retouched to best match the original stone. However, there may be slight contrasts due to your different screens and their brightness, especially with vanadinites whose admired color varies depending on the light to which they are exposed.
