Vanadinite, with its hexagonal crystal system, is a mineral species composed of lead chlorovanadate, a mixture of lead, vanadium, oxygen, and chlorine. Vanadinite forms in the oxidation zone of lead deposits, when vanadium-rich fluids react with pre-existing minerals. It is used in industry to harden steel. Formed from often shiny and well-defined hexagonal crystals, vanadinite can primarily be found associated with baryte, calcite, cerussite, mimetite, and other iron oxides.

Characteristics of vanadinite:

  • Length: 3.2cm
  • Width: 3cm
  • Height: 2.7cm
  • Weight: 31g
  • Vanadinite hardness: 2.5 to 3 on the Mohs scale
  • Vanadinite density: Between 6.8 and 7g/cm³
  • Vanadinite belongs to the hexagonal crystal system

Aspects of vanadinite:

A true small mineralogical collector's item, here is our crystallized red vanadinite weighing 31g from Morocco, in the province of Midelt. Admire our vanadinite with hexagonal crystals of a sublime shimmering red on one side (the largest of which measures 8mm), and very appreciable shades of red and brown on the back. Its crystallization is of high quality with few fractures (2 to 3 crystals broke during extraction), which makes it a quality and exceptional stone if you don't already have one in your display case!

A lead-rich mineral, it remains a stone to be handled with caution! Avoid prolonged contact with water or your mouth, do not put your nose close to the stone to avoid inhaling dust or touching it too much without gloves.

Note: Particular care has been taken to best respect the natural colors of the minerals offered to you. Photos and videos are taken in the best conditions, and slightly retouched to get as close as possible to the original stone. However, there may be slight contrasts due to your different screens used and their brightness, especially with vanadinites whose admired color varies depending on the light it is exposed to.
