Vanadinite, with its hexagonal crystal system, is a mineral species composed of lead chlorovanadate, a mixture of lead, vanadium, oxygen, and chlorine. Vanadinite forms in the oxidation zone of lead deposits when vanadium-rich fluids react with existing minerals. It is used in industry to harden steel. Formed from often brilliant and well-defined hexagonal crystals, vanadinite is mainly found associated with baryte, calcite, cerussite, mimetite, and other iron oxides.
Characteristics of vanadinite:
- Length: 4.7cm
- Width: 3.3cm
- Height: 3.1cm
- Weight: 48g
- Vanadinite hardness: 2.5 to 3 on the Mohs scale
- Vanadinite density: Between 6.8 and 7g/cm³
- Vanadinite belongs to the hexagonal crystal system
Aspects of vanadinite:
If you are looking for a special vanadinite for your mineral collection, this is the one for you! Directly from Morocco, discover our vanadinite formed of hexagonal crystals of a sublime red with some slight orange nuances depending on the light exposure, and present all over the top of the stone. The crystals that have formed on top of each other are of very good quality, close to perfection (I only noticed a slight break on one of them, the hundred or so others being perfect). On the back, you will also find hexagonal crystallization but rather brown with the presence of some pretty hexagonal prismatic crystals as well.
⚠ A lead-rich mineral, it remains a stone to be handled with care! Avoid prolonged contact with water or the mouth, do not put your nose close to the stone to avoid inhaling dust or touching it too much without gloves.
Note: Particular care has been taken to best respect the natural colors of the minerals offered to you. Photos and videos are taken under the best conditions, and slightly retouched to be as close as possible to the original stone. However, there may be slight contrasts due to your different screens used and their brightness, especially with vanadinites whose admired color varies depending on the light to which it is exposed.
