Vanadinite, with a hexagonal crystal system, is a mineral species composed of lead chlorovanadate, a mixture of lead, vanadium, oxygen, and chlorine. Vanadinite forms in the oxidation zone of lead deposits when vanadium-rich fluids react with existing minerals. It is used in industry to harden steel. Composed of often brilliant and well-defined hexagonal crystals, vanadinite is mainly found associated with barite, calcite, cerussite, mimetite, and other iron oxides.
Characteristics of vanadinite:
- Length: 6.3cm
- Width: 5cm
- Height: 3.5cm
- Weight: 110g
- Vanadinite hardness: 2.5 to 3 on the Mohs scale
- Vanadinite density: Between 6.8 and 7g/cm³
- Vanadinite belongs to the hexagonal crystal system
Appearance of vanadinite:
A beautiful collector's mineral, discover our crystallized vanadinite weighing 110g from Mibladen, Morocco. You will find crystallization in almost perfect condition across the top, with a lovely nuanced color ranging from red to slightly orange in places, and rather brownish at the back. The hundreds of red crystals formed on top vary from about 1mm to 6mm and are beautifully formed with a nice luster. The brownish crystals at the back also add quality and rarity to the vanadinite. All in all, it's a true stone to add to your display case, perhaps with a nice light above it to appreciate it best.
⚠ A lead-rich mineral, it remains a stone to handle with care! Avoid prolonged contact with water or mouth, do not put your nose close to the stone to avoid inhaling dust, or touch it too much without gloves.
Note: Particular care has been taken to best respect the natural colors of the minerals offered to you. Photos and videos are taken under the best conditions, and slightly retouched to best match the original stone. However, there may be slight contrasts due to your different screens used and their brightness, especially with vanadinites whose admired color varies depending on the light to which it is exposed.
