Vanadinite, with its hexagonal crystal system, is a mineral species composed of lead chlorovanadate, a mixture of lead, vanadium, oxygen, and chlorine. Vanadinite forms in the oxidation zone of lead deposits when vanadium-rich fluids react with existing minerals. It is used in industry to harden steel. Formed from often bright and well-defined hexagonal crystals, vanadinite is primarily found associated with barite, calcite, cerussite, mimetite, and other iron oxides.

Characteristics of vanadinite:

  • Lengths: 12cm
  • Widths: 4.8cm
  • Height: 4cm
  • Weight: 203g
  • Hardness of vanadinite: 2.5 to 3 on the Mohs scale
  • Density of vanadinite: Between 6.8 and 7g/cm³
  • Vanadinite belongs to the hexagonal crystal system

Aspects of vanadinite:

A very interesting piece for your mineral collection, discover our vanadinite formed of numerous hexagonal crystals of beautiful quality with an intense red color present mainly on the top and front of the stone, and brownish crystals at the back. Regarding the size of these crystals, they vary from 1mm to 10mm for the largest, with the presence of a few other crystals placed here and there all over the light brown rock matrix, making this vanadinite an original and surprising stone.

A mineral rich in lead, it remains a stone to be handled with care! Avoid prolonged contact with water or the mouth, do not put your nose close to the stone to avoid inhaling dust, or touch it too much without gloves.

Note: Special care has been taken to best respect the natural colors of the minerals offered to you. Photos and videos are taken in the best conditions, and slightly retouched to get as close as possible to the original stone. However, there may be slight contrasts due to your different screens and their brightness, especially with vanadinites whose admired color varies depending on the light to which they are exposed.
